Safety Score

What it is

Safety Score is a configurable scoring system in Raven’s web app that quantifies various driving behaviours into a single, easy-to-understand score. Designed to help fleet managers evaluate and improve driver performance, the system allows you to choose which events to include, assign custom weights to each, define the period, and select the vehicles to monitor. The resulting dashboard displays both an overall group score and individual vehicle scores, making it easy to identify areas for coaching, reward safe driving practices, and track performance improvements over time.

How it works

The Safety Score feature draws from Raven’s existing Event Review system, where all driver behaviour events are logged and available for review. Users can dismiss events they determine to be false positives or justified, ensuring only relevant behaviours contribute to the score. Using either the default scoring model or custom weights set by the user, Raven analyzes the selected events and calculates a score out of 100 for each vehicle. These scores are grouped into four risk levels:

• Low Risk: 90-100
• Mild Risk: 75-89
• Medium Risk: 60-74
• High Risk: Below 60

Fleet managers can use these insights to identify coaching opportunities, monitor improvements over time, and promote safe driving practices. Beyond coaching, many organizations use Safety Score to gamify performance—rewarding top vehicles in friendly competitions to encourage engagement and ongoing safety awareness.

How to use it

1. From the web app, navigate to Safety Score in the left-hand menu. On your first visit, a configuration menu will appear. Choose your preferred settings, including event types, weighting, vehicles, and date range, then select Load Score.
2. Once loaded, the dashboard displays several interactive widgets, including:
   1. Fleet Score: An overview of your entire group’s performance
   2. Individual Score: A breakdown by vehicle
   3. Event Types Over Time: A timeline view of behaviour trends
   4. Score Trend Over Time: Visualize improvement or decline across your selected period
3. Click on any green headline to filter and drill down into specific data segments for deeper insights. To update your configuration at any time, select Options in the top-right of the dashboard to adjust event types, weights, time range, or included vehicles.
