Assets (Raven Settings)
Configure the settings of individual Raven devices via the Raven Settings section within the ‘Assets’ menu item.
Configurable Raven Settings Include:
- Cameras
- Driver Alerts
- Events
- Unit of Measure
To access Raven Settings for a particular device:
-
Select the Assets menu item
-
A list of you assets will be displayed, select a Raven asset.
-
Along the top menu for the selected asset, click on Raven Settings
Cameras
The ‘Cameras’ settings allow you to configure which cameras are active. For example if you elect to disable the Cabin facing camera for your operations, no cabin facing images or video will be captured. Both the Road and Cabin facing cameras are enabled by default.
The ‘Video Quality’ setting allows you to extend the number of hours of video that will be retained on the memory card provided with the Raven device. The default setting is HD (1080p/30fps for the Road facing camera and 720P/15fps for the Cabin facing camera), which will retain approximately 60-hours of drive time video before overwriting the oldest 5 minutes files on the memory card. Lower quality settings will capture video at a lower bit rate, which will impact both image resolution and frame rate.
Driver Alerts
‘Driver Alerts’ are audible alerts that will be played to the driver for Raven driven events such as speeding. Enabled by default, these audible alerts can be disabled should you wish.
Events
‘Events’ allow you to control Raven driven events including speeding notifications to your drivers. The Speeding event can be configured as a percentage or fixed number of kilometers over the posted speed limit.
Unit of Measure
Units of Measure will dictate whether Imperial or Metric units will be presented on the LCD display of the Raven.
WiFi
Enable WiFi Hotspot for the selected Raven and set user credentials.
*Note that WiFi Hotspot allows up to five devices to be connected at any time.
Raven In-Vehicle Hardware
The Raven in-vehicle hardware is designed to be plug and play, and is provided with a pre-configured SIM card and SD memory card. Once power is applied, the Raven device will connect with the cellular data network and provision itself against the associated Raven fleet account.
Included Raven Accessories
Each Raven is provided with a standard set of accessories that facilitate installation in a vehicle equipped with an available OBD2 port to which the Raven will be connected for both power and telematics data capture.
- Raven+
- Universal Mount
- 8ft OBD2 Cable
- Allen Wrench
- Security Panel
- Security Screws (x3)
- Adhesive Cable Clips (x4)
- Spare Mount Adhesives x2)
Optional Raven Accessories
For installation in vehicles that do not have an available OBD2 port, optional cables and cable adapters can be used in series with the standard 8ft Raven to OBD2 cable, including:
- Cable - OBD Extender (6ft)
- Cable - OBD to J1939 (9-Pin Type 2) Adapter (6ft)
- Cable - OBD to 12VDC 2-Wire Adapter (18in)
- Cable - OBD Y-Splitter (15in)
The requirement for any of these optional cables/adapters will be dictated by the type of vehicle into which the Raven+ device is being installed, the preferred mounting location, and any other peripheral devices (i.e. Geotab Go9) that may also require access to the diagnostic port.
Installation with a Geotab Go9
When installing the Raven+ device with a Geotab Go9, additional cabling may be required. This will depend upon the cables that were provided with your Go9, as well as the preferred installation configuration.
For light/medium duty vehicles equipped with OBD2 port, you will typically use Geotab harness HRN-GS16K22. For this configuration, either an additional Geotab T-harness (i.e. HRN-BM16T2 or HRN-BM16T22) or Raven’s Cable - OBD Y-Splitter (15in) will be required.
For Heavy duty vehicles equipped with J1939 (9-pin) port, you will typically use Geotab harness HRN-GS09K2. For this configuration, either an additional Geotab T-harness (i.e. HRN-BM16T2 or HRN-BM16T22) or Raven’s Cable - OBD Y-Splitter (15in) will be required.
Raven Media Types
Different types of visual media are exposed via the TELUS | Raven Add-in. These are described below including the resolution and frame rates as appropriate.

- Update every 2 seconds while driving
- Update every 15 seconds while parked
-
960 x 540 pixels
-
Live Streaming
- Road: 720P @ 30fps
- Cabin: 720P @ 15fps
From the Geotab ‘Trip History’ and Raven ‘Exceptions with Media’ screens:
-
Exception Preview Images
- 960 x 540 pixels
-
Exception Videos (15s, 30s, 45s or 60s):

- Cabin: 720P @ 15fps
-
Historical Streaming:
- Road: 720P @ 30fps
- Cabin: 720P @ 15fps
*Note that streaming video quality may be impacted by cellular data connection (i.e. for ‘Live Streaming’ and ‘Historical Streaming’ sessions) as the Raven device is negotiating the best encoding rate for the available bandwidth to present in real-time, and video may appear pixelated at times.
Clicking on the full screen icon at the bottom right corner of any image or video frame will expand to full screen viewing. Full screen mode can be exited using the ‘Esc’ or ‘F11’ button on your keyboard or by clicking on the ‘X’ icon that will appear when you mouse over the top portion of the screen.
